Website SpellChecker Bot

Website SpellChecker Bot (WSSC-Bot)

WebsiteSpellChecker Bot (WSSC-Bot) is the crawler used by the Website SpellChecker service to analyse public webpages for spelling and basic grammar issues on behalf of our customers. This page explains what the bot does, how it behaves, and how to recognise it in your logs.

Who operates this bot?

WSSC-Bot is operated by Website SpellChecker (C3 Software Ltd).

User-Agent and log identification

Our crawler identifies itself with the following User-Agent header:

WSSC-Bot/1.0 (+https://websitespellchecker.com/bot; mailto:support@websitespellchecker.com)

If you see this value in your web server, CDN, or WAF logs, the request is being made by our WebsiteSpellChecker Bot. The version number (1.0 above) may change over time as we update the service, but the product name WSSC-Bot and the bot information URL will remain stable so you can reliably identify our traffic.

What the bot does

WSSC-Bot’s purpose is to support spell-checking and basic grammar analysis for websites owned or managed by our customers. In practice, this means the bot:

  • Fetches sitemaps (for example, /sitemap.xml) and/or individual web pages.
  • Extracts visible text content from the HTML for spell-checking and light grammar analysis.
  • Records technical metadata needed to provide results back to the customer (such as URLs and timestamps).

WSSC-Bot does not:

  • Send destructive requests (no POST, PUT, PATCH, or DELETE for crawling).
  • Attempt to bypass authentication, paywalls, or any form of access control.
  • Scan for vulnerabilities, attempt exploits, or perform security testing.

When and how the bot runs

WSSC-Bot only runs when explicitly instructed to do so by a logged-in customer from within the Website SpellChecker application.

  • We only crawl domains that have been verified as owned or controlled by the customer (for example, via DNS records or other ownership verification methods).
  • The bot does not roam the wider internet or crawl arbitrary third-party sites; its activity is scoped to the specific domains that the customer has verified and requested to scan.
  • The overall request volume depends on the size and structure of the verified site being scanned.

Privacy

WSSC-Bot only processes content that is publicly accessible at the time of the scan. The text we collect is used to provide spell-checking and grammar feedback to our customers and to improve the quality and reliability of the Website SpellChecker service.

If you believe we have processed content that should not be public, or you have any questions about how Website SpellChecker handles data, please contact us at support@websitespellchecker.com and we will investigate.
